Kyle Skelton – Head Coach
Coach Skelton is in his 11th year coaching, and his 2nd as Cypress Lakes Head Baseball Coach. Previously, he was the Head Coach at Canterbury Episcopal. While he was there, they were a 3-time Regional Finalists, and State Runner Up in TAPPS. After coaching at Canterbury, Coach Skelton was a Varsity Assistant in Shepherd and New Caney, Texas. He also served as the Varsity Assistant at Cypress Lakes for a year before becoming the head coach.
Coach Skelton teaches World Geography, and is also a coach for the Spartan Football team.
He graduated from Dallas Baptist University with a degree in Kinesiology with minors in History and Psychology, and has an MBA in Management from Dallas Baptist University. Coach Skelton enjoys spending time with his wife Sara, and two children, Macynn (3) and Micah (1).
Doug Baylis – Varsity Assistant
Coach Baylis has been a baseball coach for over 20 years now. This is his second year at Cypress Lakes HS as the varsity assistant. He began his career coaching the Legion teams of Greeley, CO way back in 1994.
Between 2001-2010, he ran the DeLeon Baseball league here in Houston and also formed Bayou City Baseball Academy (BCBA), a 501c3 non-profit which helped underprivileged kids play 18U Select ball all over the country. Coach Baylis has played a direct role in helping dozens of players continue their playing careers into college and and the professional ranks.
Coach Baylis teaches English IV at Cy Lakes HS. Previously, he taught in NFISD, the Institute for Reading Development (IRD), and The Princeton Review (TPR). Currently, you may spot him at Minute Maid as a member of the award-winning Houston Astros grounds crew also.
He was a 3-time All-Northern Plains player while at Windsor HS in Colorado, and went on to play for Coach Byron Wiehe at Mesa College in Grand Junction, CO. Afterwards, he played in the predecessor to the Arizona Fall League, then known as the Instructional League, and also the Florida Gulf Coast League.
After his playing days were over, Coach Baylis served in the U.S. Army Infantry and is a decorated Desert Storm veteran.
He has a BA in English from the University of Houston and spent one year studying as part of the Graduate Faculty at the New School for Social Research in New York City.
His greatest accomplishment is being the proud father of Ethan Baylis, who is currently 7 years old.
Michael Kelly – JV Coach
Coach Kelly is in his 18th year coaching, and his 3rd year in CFISD - spent 2 years (2005 - 2007) as a sophomore baseball coach and varsity pitching coach at Langham Creek, under Armando Sedeno...Previously, he was the head baseball coach for the Bay City Black Cats in Bay City, Texas. He has 5 years of varsity baseball playoff experience; three trips to the Texas High School 5A baseball playoffs - 1997 - 1999 with Brazoswood Buccaneers coupled with two years while at Langham Creek (2005-2007) where the Lobos were 2007 Regional Semi-finalists.
Coach Kelly is a member of the PACE team at Cy-Lakes High...also serves a role as an assistant football coach under Coach Patton.
He graduated from Stephen F. Austin State University with a degree in Kinesiology . While at SFASU, he also was a member of the Lumberjack baseball team - he was a pitcher. Coach Kelly played one season professional baseball - 1996 member of the Minot Mallards, out of North Dakota, an Independent League team...his club was the Prairie League Champions in 1996. He says, "those 115 days of professional baseball was the best summer of my life."
He is from Newton, Texas - home of the three time 3A state football champions.
Louis Horton – Sophomore Coach
Coach Horton is in his 1st full year at Cy Lakes and his 27th year as a coach and math teacher. He has previously coached at Willowridge HS, Terry HS, Granbury HS, and Angleton HS. Previous coaching assignments have included offensive coordinator and assistant head football coach, defensive coordinator, head track coach, and assistant baseball coach.
Coach Horton graduated from the University of Texas at Austin with a degree in Kinesiology and Mathematics education. While at UT, he met his wife, Julie, of nearly 27 years. He and his wife have two children…Philip (23) and Amanda (21) who are both in college.
